Las Vegas, NV -- The Ford for Nevada Attorney General campaign released a new television ad today, "Midwife," in which certified midwife and nurse practitioner, Lorraine Garcia, outlines Wes Duncan’s extremist views on reproductive rights for Nevada women.

“As a nurse and midwife, I know how important it is that Nevada have an Attorney General who protects women’s health care,” says Garcia. “That’s not Wes Duncan.” She goes on to outline Duncan’s views on restricting choice and his role in targeting Planned Parenthood.

Duncan was Laxalt’s right-hand man as they used the Nevada Attorney General’s office to push an extreme, anti-choice agenda. As First Assistant AG, the Nevada Attorney General’s office signed on to several suits in other states aimed at limiting choice, such as Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, a case originating in Texas regarding TRAP laws, and another case in Alabama that would ban the most commonly used procedure for second trimester abortions.

Duncan was part of the team that questioned Planned Parenthood centers here in Nevada after heavily edited and misleading videos were released by anti-choice extremists. After a federal judge ordered those extremists to stop releasing the videos, the Nevada Attorney General’s office signed on to a lawsuit to allow these extremists to continue. The US Supreme Court refused to hear the case, preventing further release of the fraudulent videos.

This year, Duncan campaigned at “crisis pregnancy centers” that brag about “intercepting” women seeking an abortion and peddle false claims about pregnancy that put women at risk. At an awards banquet for one such center, Duncan stated that, “There are two worldviews in the world. And the one that First Choice and other crisis pregnancy centers cares about is the one that we need to continue to fight for.” He went on to say that “we need to continue to fight for life at every stage,” despite the fact that the Nevada constitution protects a woman’s right to choose until 24 weeks.

“Nevada voters have made it clear -- we believe in a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions,” said Ford for Nevada Campaign Manager Jessica Adair. “Despite Nevadans voting to include this right in our state constitution, Wes Duncan and his allies have used the Attorney General’s office to restrict our rights. Nevadans are sick of our tax dollars being used to fund an Attorney General’s office that is more concerned with promoting an extreme, ideological crusade than protecting Nevadans.”
