Former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden is endorsing Democratic attorney general candidate Aaron Ford.

Biden, considered a potential 2020 presidential candidate, said in a statement provided to The Nevada Independent that Ford “knows what it means to struggle” and that the Senate majority leader will “protect Nevada families” if elected.

“He grew up poor, worked hard in school to escape poverty, attended college on a scholarship and loans, and was the first in his family to graduate from college,” Biden said in a statement. “I’m proud to endorse Aaron Ford for Attorney General because he will always put Nevada families first by taking on the scammers who rip off seniors, the insurance companies who deny needed care, the polluters who poison our water, and the drug dealers who prey on our children.”

The endorsement is Biden’s fifth in Nevada since the start of the year, including U.S. Senate candidate Jacky Rosen, congressional hopefuls Susie Lee and Steven Horsford, and secretary of state candidate Nelson Araujo.

Ford is challenging Republican Wes Duncan, a former first assistant attorney general, for the right to replace Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who is running for governor.
