Aaron Ford Holds Education Roundtable with Southern Nevada Educators, Parents, and Students

Yesterday, Attorney General Aaron Ford hosted a roundtable to hear from parents, educators, and students about what they want to see him do as Governor to improve Nevada’s lagging education system. This is the first of several conversations Ford will be hosting with Nevada educators, students, and parents as he outlines how he will equip Nevada public schools with the tools they need to thrive, including guaranteeing school meals so that every child is fed and ready to learn each day.

Nevada currently ranks 47th for both K-12 education and overall childhood well-being, having sunk from the state’s 45th place ranking during Joe Lombardo’s tenure. Lombardo fully supports Donald Trump’s plan to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education, which jeopardizes nearly $1 billion per year in funding for Nevada schools and students. In contrast, Ford has sued to keep the DOE and its funding to Nevada intact. Meanwhile, Trump-ally Joe Lombardo called Ford’s lawsuits that are protecting funding for Nevada “unfortunate”.

“As a former public school teacher myself, I know firsthand just how important it is for teachers and parents to be centered in conversations about strengthening our education system,” said Aaron Ford, Attorney General of Nevada and candidate for Governor. “Unlike Joe Lombardo, I will never pit communities against each other. Instead, I’ll work alongside teachers and parents to eradicate barriers to student success and make sure every student in Nevada has the support to reach their highest potential, no matter what part of the state they live in.”
