Attorney General Ford Slams Donald Trump For Refusing to Sign Bipartisan Bill to Lower Housing Costs
Today, Joe Lombardo’s boss, Donald Trump, refused to sign a bipartisan bill focused on making housing affordable, calling it “of minor importance.” As Nevadans struggle to afford housing in the Lombardo-Trump economy, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was set to finally stop Wall Street firms from buying single-family homes and pricing Nevadans out of their neighborhoods.
Lombardo has been Nevada’s biggest roadblock against lowering housing costs, vetoing legislation that would have limited the ability of Wall Street corporate landlords to buy up housing stock in Nevada and drive up costs. Lombardo blocked a similar bill during the 2025 legislative session, then refused to include it in his special session proclamation later that year.
In contrast, stopping Wall Street firms from driving up costs on working families is central to Attorney General Aaron Ford’s ‘Affordable Nevada’ plan. In November, Ford demanded that Lombardo sign legislation to limit corporate homeownership and after he refused, pledged to sign legislation in the first 30 days of the 2027 legislative session as Nevada’s next Governor.
“Like Joe Lombardo, Donald Trump is blocking bipartisan legislation that would lower the cost of housing for working families in Nevada. Trump is proving yet again that he doesn’t give a damn about making life affordable for working families. Lombardo says he has a direct line of communication with Trump, yet he is lying down for Trump again by refusing to stand up for Nevadans and turning a blind eye to protect his billionaire backers who are sending housing costs skyrocketing,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “Just like his boss, Lombardo has been the biggest roadblock to affordable housing here in Nevada. When I’m Governor, I will sign legislation to stop corporate homeownership and lower housing costs in Nevada.”
