Aaron Ford Unveils ‘Student Success’ Agenda To Promote Educational Opportunity in Nevada
Today, on Teacher Appreciation Day, former public school teacher Aaron Ford released his education plan, a roadmap for how he will ensure that every Nevada student has the opportunity to achieve their dreams through education. As outlined in his plan, Ford will fight to improve child literacy and train and retain the best teachers in Nevada. Ford will also guarantee school meals for students, fight for increased per pupil funding, protect children’s safety online, and support apprenticeship and job training programs to ensure that every Nevadan, no matter where they live, has the opportunity to succeed.
“Every Nevada student, no matter where in the state they live or how much money their parents make, should have the opportunity to build the career, family, and life they want through education. But under Joe Lombardo, that dream is out of reach for far too many,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “Having been a public school teacher myself, I know that what students, families, and educators need is real solutions—not empty promises. When I’m governor, I’ll broaden access to educational opportunities so that students, teachers, and their families are truly equipped to succeed.”
As someone whose life was transformed by educational opportunity through the Upward Bound program and who served as a public school teacher himself, Attorney General Ford knows that Nevada’s students need real results, not empty promises. After nearly four years of Lombardo's failed leadership, Nevada ranks 46th for education and 47th for child wellbeing, while almost six out of ten 4th graders lack math proficiency and more than half of 4th graders lack reading proficiency. All the while, Joe Lombardo supports Trump’s plan to eliminate the Department of Education and the nearly $1 billion it sends our schools annually.
While serving in the State Senate, Ford passed bipartisan legislation to recruit teachers for hard-to-fill roles and provide scholarships for Nevada students and future teachers. He also worked to increase education funding for schools statewide and give parents more choice in their children’s education.
As Attorney General, Ford sued the Trump administration for attempting to eliminate the Department of Education and the $1 billion Nevada receives from the DOE each year. He sued a major national student loan servicer and won, delivering millions of dollars of student loan relief for Nevadans that had been harmed by deceptive and predatory lending practices. Ford fought the federal government’s efforts to cut support for Nevada schools and will continue to fight for Nevada in the Governor’s office.
