Ford Slams Lombardo For Supporting Price-Raising Demand Charge, Shares Plan To Stop It
Today, ahead of the PUCN hearing on the demand charge, Attorney General Ford slammed Joe Lombardo’s support of NV Energy’s price hike, which is set to raise Nevadans’ energy bills by hundreds of dollars a year. If Lombardo has it his way and NV Energy’s demand charge takes effect, Nevadans will be forced to pay even higher summer energy bills than they already suffer today.
While Ford was talking about his plan to cut Nevadans’ energy costs, Lombardo’s campaign rallied outside of NV Energy’s headquarters in support of the demand charge price hike. Lombardo’s campaign is the biggest recipient of big utility money in the state, and he has consistently supported the demand charge.
“That’s the difference between me and Joe Lombardo. He works for Donald Trump and his greedy corporate donors while I work for you. To every person who attended the PUCN hearing today to speak out against the demand charge, and the thousands more who can’t participate in this exclusionary process but also can’t afford this price hike, know this – I have your back,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “I’m fighting in court to block this price hike now – and, as Governor, I’ll slash energy costs and lead our state out of the failing Lombardo-Trump economy that’s currently making life so difficult for working people.”
Ford is running for Governor to end the cost-of-living crisis Nevadans are experiencing under the failed Lombardo-Trump economy, including by lowering Nevadans’ energy bills. As Attorney General, Ford has sued to block the demand charge in court, and he sued the Trump administration to recover the $150 million in Solar for All funds that Trump ripped away, which would have helped lower Nevadans’ energy bills.

“I sued to stop Trump’s cuts to the Solar for All program, which would have brought $150 million in clean energy investment to Nevada, slashing ratepayers’ bills and creating new jobs.
“As Governor, I will end the scourge of families going bankrupt for paying their medical bills.
“I will slash the cost of prescription drugs instead of selling out to the Big Pharma execs keeping them high, like Joe Lombardo does.
“I will stop Wall Street from buying up our homes and pricing working Nevadans out of their neighborhoods.
“And I will stop NV energy’s demand charge price hike, which Joe Lombardo supports.”
