PRESS RELEASE

Nevada State Education Association Endorses Aaron Ford for Governor

Today, Attorney General Aaron Ford announced that the Nevada State Education Association endorsed his campaign for Governor.

“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the Nevada State Education Association,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “As a former public school teacher, I understand the challenges our educators face in the classroom; treating them with the respect they deserve, providing necessary resources and creating pathways to opportunity for people at all stages of their lives is key to moving our state forward. Making Nevada the place our kids want to start their futures begins with their education — and investing in our students’ future will be a top priority for me as Governor.”

“Nevada educators know Aaron Ford has always been a fierce advocate for our students and public schools. From his time as Attorney General, standing up against illegal and dangerously reckless cuts to the Department of Education, to his time in the Nevada Legislature, pushing for the resources our kids need to succeed, Aaron Ford has proven his commitment to protecting our future,” said Dawn Etcheverry, President of the Nevada State Education Association. “Public education gave him a path forward, and that lived experience is why he understands our needs today. As Governor, Aaron Ford will continue to champion the investments our students deserve, including smaller class sizes, stronger schools, and real accountability for public dollars. That’s why Nevada’s educators are proud to stand with him in this fight for our students and our schools.”

Attorney General Ford has a Proven Track Record of Fighting for Nevada Schools, Investing in Students and Uplifting Educators:

  • As Attorney General, Aaron Ford sued the Trump administration to keep the Department of Education intact and with it the nearly $1 billion it sends Nevada yearly.

  • Attorney General Ford sued the federal government to restore states’ access to several programs supporting low-income and homeless students.

  • In 2023, General Ford announced that he approved nearly $4.5 million from a settlement with T-Mobile to be used for increasing support for Nevada students and addressing the teacher shortage crisis.

  • As Senate Majority Leader, Ford served as a primary sponsor for SB391 which established the Nevada Promise Scholarship Account in the State General Fund to pay for the scholarships for Nevada high school graduates attending a participating community college.

  • Former Senate Majority Leader Ford served as a primary sponsor for SB200, which required students to receive instruction in computer education and technology, and allows them to potentially use those credits to fulfill certain college admissions requirements.

  • As State Senate Minority Leader, Ford served as a primary sponsor for SB511, which established the Teach Nevada Scholarship program that is aimed at addressing the state’s teacher shortage by attracting more people to choose a teaching career and incentivizing educators to teach at disadvantaged schools.

  • As a State Senator, Ford sponsored SB269, which held students who habitually skip school accountable by delaying the ability of a student to receive a driver’s license and the suspension of the student’s driver’s license.
