WATCH: Ford Sues Trump Administration to Protect Nevadans’ SNAP Benefits
Attorney General Aaron Ford appeared on MSNBC’s The Weeknight to discuss his lawsuit against the Trump administration for suspending the SNAP program, which nearly 500,000 Nevadans rely on. While Ford fights to protect SNAP benefits, Lombardo called Ford’s efforts “unfortunate.”
At a time when one in four Nevada children are already unsure where their next meal will come from, Lombardo celebrated Trump’s disastrous tax bill that cuts billions from the SNAP. In March, Trump cut $8 million in funding that would have helped Nevada schools and food banks buy fresh food from local growers, hurting not only hungry Nevadans, but also farmers and producers in the state.

AG FORD: The purposes of this lawsuit, once again, the Trump administration is breaking the law this time by cutting off food assistance that Congress has required it to provide. When you have one or four Nevada children who don't know where their next meal is going to come from, this President is deciding that he'd rather let kids go hungry than to use contingency funds that Congress has set aside to keep families fed, and that is legally required to use. You combine that with the fact that we have a governor who vetoed a bill that could have guaranteed school lunches to our children, we are in dire straits, and that's why we sued.

Nevada Independent: Nevada joins states suing the Trump administration to fund food programs during shutdown
[10/28/25]
Key points:
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, a Democrat, joined a coalition of states suing the Trump administration to keep federal funds flowing to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the government shutdown.
In a statement, Ford called the Trump administration’s choice to cut SNAP benefits deliberate, cruel, and an extraordinarily harmful decision, and says the reasoning behind it — the government shutdown — is inadequate.
“Contingency funds exist for this exact scenario, yet the USDA has decided to abdicate its responsibility to Nevadans and refused to fund SNAP benefits,” the statement said.
Ford urged Gov. Joe Lombardo to work with Democrats and President Donald Trump to keep funds flowing for Nevadans.
Fox 5 (KVVU): Nevada attorney general votes to approve $30 million for food banks during government shutdown
The Nevada attorney general said he has voted to approve $30 million for funding food banks during the federal government shutdown.
“I voted for this funding today, but let’s be clear, this is a Band-Aid and kids are still going to struggle to be fed,” said Attorney General Ford. “That’s why I’m suing the Trump Administration to use existing funds to fully fund the SNAP program. Nevada families shouldn’t be left in limbo, and kids shouldn’t be going hungry.”

@AaronDFordNV: Too many Nevadans are already struggling to make ends meet and Donald Trump is suspending SNAP.
It is not only cruel, but it is illegal — and that’s why I’m taking him to court. I’m going to use every tool available to me to ensure Nevadans get their benefits.
@DemocraticAGs: As someone who has used food stamps to survive, AG [Ford] knows exactly how much families across the nation rely on them.
Democratic AGs are using every tool possible to ensure SNAP benefits are protected.
