Attorney General Ford Statement on President Trump’s Latest Attempts to Federalize Nevada’s Elections
Attorney General Aaron Ford released the following statement in response to President Trump’s Latest Attempts to Federalize Nevada’s Elections:
“Let me be clear: Any effort by Donald Trump and his political cronies to have the federal government take over Nevada’s elections is a direct attack on our constitutional right to vote. The President does not have the unilateral authority to seize control of a state’s elections by executive order. Any attempt to do so would be an unprecedented abuse of power. In nearly 250 years, no president has claimed that authority, and Nevada will not be the first.
“Silence from Republican state leaders in the face of this kind of overreach isn’t leadership. It’s cowardice. As Attorney General, I will fight that overreach in court and use the full weight of the law to stop it. And as Governor, I will use every power of this office to defend Nevada’s constitutional rights and ensure our elections remain secure, fair, and lawfully run by the State of Nevada.”
