Aaron Ford Unveils Energy Plan as Third Plank of ‘Affordable Nevada’ Platform

Today, Aaron Ford released his energy plan, a roadmap for how he will cut costs for ratepayers, build new energy supply, and create good energy jobs as Governor. Ford’s energy plan is the third plank of his ‘Affordable Nevada’ platform, a comprehensive agenda to make Nevada affordable for working families struggling to get by in the failing Lombardo-Trump economy.

“Energy costs have ballooned out of control for working families under Joe Lombardo, especially with the unlawful demand charge set to raise ratepayers’ bills even further. As Governor, I will hold corporations accountable and get new energy projects online faster in order to increase supply,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “In order to provide plentiful, cheap energy to our state’s residents, Nevada needs a diversity of energy sources, and projects built efficiently with gold-standard union labor. I’ve been fighting to lower energy costs for Nevadans as their Attorney General by suing to reverse the Trump administration’s cuts and halt the demand charge, and I will continue and expand that fight as Governor.”

Almost a quarter of Nevadans are unable to afford their electric bills as Nevadans pay some of the highest electricity bills in the country. With mandatory demand charges threatening to raise utility costs and Trump’s recent cuts to cost-lowering solar programs and energy jobs, Nevada needs a Governor who’s willing to fight back. As Nevada begins to feel the impact of the cuts to programs like Solar for All, which would have lowered costs for 50,000 Nevadans and created nearly 1,000 new jobs, companies are gearing up to raise costs on Nevadans, including through a demand charge based on a customer’s highest 15-minute period of energy usage in the day.

Ford has sued to block the cost-raising demand charge, demanded full refunds for over-charged ratepayers, and sued the Trump administration to recover $156 million in Solar for All funds that Trump stole from Nevadans. As Governor, Ford will work alongside unions and renewable energy groups to build on his track record and deliver affordable energy for Nevada families.
