Lying Lombardo Strikes Again: Debunking The Latest BS Pro-Lombardo Ad
Team Lombardo is back with more lies – even after their last ad was thoroughly debunked. Lombardo’s MAGA Republican friends in Washington DC are up with a new pro-Lombardo ad attempting to attack Attorney General Ford’s record of cracking down on crime and keeping Nevada families safe.
Setting aside the absurdity of Joe Lombardo having the gall to attack anyone else’s record on crime when he supports defunding the police and is in bed with convicted felon Donald Trump, let’s run through Team Lombardo’s latest lies:
The ad claims Ford-backed legislation “weakened the prison sentences for trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and meth.” In fact, it was a bipartisan bill Lombardo himself helped pass as Sherriff.
AG Ford introduced legislation to make it easier to crack down on fentanyl trafficking and increased the penalties for it – and Lombardo backed AG Ford’s bill, signing it into law.
On opioids, Ford’s record is unambiguous: he has been Nevadans’ fiercest advocate against the big pharma-caused crisis. He proposed a bill strengthening sentences for people convicted of trafficking. AG Ford struck out on his own to take on the Big Pharma companies that caused the opioid crisis, securing $1.2 billion in restitution to help Nevada communities that were devastated by it recover.
AG Ford knows there’s a difference between dangerous criminals and low-level, nonviolent offenders. That’s why he recommended lower sentences for routine misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies without large community impacts like shoplifting and graffiti.
Here are the facts about Ford’s record:
As Nevada’s top cop, AG Ford has fought drug trafficking, protected Nevada’s children, cracked down on fraud, fixed the years-long rape kit backlog, and prosecuted violent crimes.
PROTECTING CHILDREN: Ford has been the nation’s leader in protecting children from online predators. AG Ford sponsored legislation allowing law enforcement to conduct online stings against child predators seeking to find victims on the internet. Following the passage of Ford’s legislation, law enforcement has made numerous arrests via online stings.
CRACKING DOWN ON BIG TECH: Ford has used his powers as the Attorney General to crack down on technology companies that allow predators to use their platforms to seek out their victims. Following Ford’s lawsuits, major companies have agreed to first in the nation guardrails that make it easier for parents to protect their children and for law enforcement to go after child predators.
PROSECUTING VIOLENT CRIME: As Attorney General, Ford has prosecuted violent crimes when local District Attorneys either could not or would not prosecute. In 2019 Ford secured a conviction in a 40-year-old murder case in Washoe County — which Lombardo’s endorsed DA refused to prosecute.
SEEKING JUSTICE FOR RAPE: In a state senator, Ford supported reforms requiring law enforcement to test rape kits faster. Then, as Attorney General, Ford cleared a backlog of nearly 8,000 previously untested rape kits, resulting in over a thousand DNA matches and numerous arrests.
“All Joe Lombardo has done over the last four years is wreck Nevada’s economy and bend over for Donald Trump. From raising costs on working families to pushing anti-worker policies after taking wads of campaign cash from billionaire donors Lombardo has utterly failed to have any positive impact on Nevadans’ lives. That’s why, in a panicked attempt to hide from his own abysmal economic record, he’s having his MAGA friends spew sloppy ads full of lies like this one,” said Prerna Jagadeesh, spokesperson for Ford for Governor. “While Joe Lombardo betrays law enforcement by voting against their pay increases and aligns himself with a felonious president and other convicted criminals, General Ford is cracking down on crime, both online and on Nevada’s streets.”
