ICYMI: Ford Holds Town Hall On Data Centers, Rising Electricity Costs At Teamsters Local 14

Last night, Attorney General Aaron Ford held a town hall at Teamsters Local 14 to address the rising costs of utility bills due to NV Energy’s demand charge and data centers. After Lombardo’s PUCN denied a request by Ford’s Bureau of Consumer Protection to host a public hearing on NV energy’s demand charge price hike, Ford met directly with impacted Nevadans himself to hear firsthand how rising electricity bills are squeezing their household budgets and answered questions about his plans to lower costs.

Joe Lombardo is a staunch supporter of NV Energy’s demand charge and data centers. Lombardo’s campaign has been bankrolled to the tune of $2 million by data center operators, and in return, he has given data centers over $240 million in tax breaks, despite there being little to no actual proof that they have delivered on promises of tax revenue, sustainable jobs, or economic investment. Likewise, NV Energy, whose demand charge is set to raise Nevadans’ electricity costs by hundreds of dollars annually, wrote a $20,000 campaign check to Lombardo after Attorney General Ford sued to end the price hike.

“Attorney General Ford understands that Nevada’s growth should work for working people, not just corporations,” said Ross Kinson, Teamsters Nevada Political Director. “He will make sure data centers pay their fair share, protect Nevadans from higher energy costs, and create good-paying jobs for Nevada workers. He has always been a strong partner to working people, and that’s the kind of leadership we need in Nevada.”
