Ford Rallies Workers at Reno LaborFest
Yesterday, Attorney General Aaron Ford rallied Nevada workers at Reno LaborFest. Ford spoke with workers about his plan to protect workers’ rights, create good-paying union jobs, and ensure Nevada’s economic growth benefits working families. He also highlighted his commitment to putting workers first and ensuring that every Nevadan has a fair shot at achieving the American Dream. Ford has pledged to be the most pro-worker governor in Nevada’s history, and his ‘Workers First’ agenda outlines how he’ll fight to protect prevailing wages and end the “right-to-freeload.”
Ford also sat down with local reporters to discuss his vision for Nevada and his commitment to building an economy where working families can thrive. He highlighted his plan to hold data centers accountable, including pausing new tax breaks and requiring them to pay their fair share for the energy and resources they use. Ford emphasized that Nevada’s economic growth should benefit working families and communities across the state, not come at their expense.

“When I am governor, I will put the brakes on tax giveaways to data centers,”[Ford said.]
“They are going to have to use their own water,” Ford said. “They are going to have to use [clean] energy to power their own facility. They are going to have to build out the grid to accommodate their own needs.”
Data centers, [Lombardo] says, are “The New Gold Rush.”
Ford says the future starts when he’s elected governor. Auditing current data centers to make sure they are living up to their agreements, and going forward, making sure Nevadans’ questions and concerns are addressed through well thought out plans.
KTVN: Ford wants to pause all tax breaks for Nevada data centers
"[Voters are] concerned about the water usage,” [Ford] said. “They're concerned about the power being used. They're concerned about their electricity rates being raised. And so my plan responds to all of those."
"I'm going to pause all abatements going forward, our tax breaks going forward. Our current governor has only failed to uphold his end of the bargain, which was to look at these data centers to see if they were upholding their own end of the bargain."
State documents show that about $330 million in Nevada tax abatements were awarded to data center projects from 2021 to 2024.
